EveryBlock was an early pioneer in civic technology—designed to help people stay informed about what was happening on their block, in their neighborhood, and across their city. It brought together local news, municipal data, and community conversation into one personalized feed.
I designed key features for both the web and iPhone app, including onboarding, advanced search, badges, a neighborhood ad platform for small businesses, and the daily email digest. The challenge was to present public information in a way that felt useful, respectful, and easy to engage with—without overwhelming the user.
Though the platform had been acquired by MSNBC before I joined, my work helped shape its continued evolution, and the model later informed parts of Nextdoor's local feed.
